Serving you the dish about Heather...
Welcome! I’m Heather and this is my blog about life as a waitress. I’ve been working as a singing server for 12 years, but it sometimes feels like I’ve put in a lifetime of gruelling, mindless work. Waitressing is often tiresome, especially when it’s only supposed to be my ‘transition’ job, before starting a career. But it’s not always bad.
Here’s my story:
My first serving job was supposed to see me through a theatre degree. From there, I was going to ‘make it big’ on the stage. While I managed to land a couple of few-and-far-between acting gigs, it was difficult to persevere in such a tough business. All the while, I kept my waitressing job to pay the bills.
When restaurant life started to crush my spirit, I went back to school to earn a Master’s degree in comparative literature. After that, I was going to ‘make it big’ in the world of publishing. Can you guess where this story is going?
While I enjoyed making easy money serving tables, I started feeling the weight of being 30 and stuck in a thankless job. I went back to school for a third time. Now, I’m studying Public Relations and looking forward to starting a solid career.
So, here I am: PR student, developing blogger, belter of the song, and master of the tray. I hope I can teach other like-minded servers a little something about how to soldier on when the light at the end of the tunnel seems so far away. I sincerely thank you for visiting my blog.
Heather
